Prof. Dr. Sohail Sabir visit to Pakistan

Prof. Dr. Sohail Sabir, head of Chemistry Department, Aligarh Muslim University India has arrived here on a visit to Pakistan.

In Karachi he was hosted a dinner by Zakir Ali Khan Panel which was constituted to contest Elections-2018 of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA). at the residence of Akbar Ali Khan, founder and Chairman of ZAK Panel. 

In his speech on the occasion Dr Sohail Sabir said that while in Pakistan he felt delighted for being among the elite of  Aligarhians and Alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He thanked Akbar Ali Khan and Mrs Khan for providing him this opportunity of having an interaction with them.

Speaking about the Aligarh Muslim University and its current state of affairs, Prof Sohail informed that at present the university's students strength is around 30,000 and the university has 20 spacious halls to accommodate them.

Dr Sohail, who is the Chairman of AMU's scholarship committee and Chairman AMU Alumni Association India, extended an invitation to the guests to come to Aligarh for a visit to AMU for which   he assured of extending them every assistance in getting a visa besides their stay there.

On the occasion Engr  Anwar Ali, Vice-President AMUOBA, recalled his visit to Sydney, Australia, and his meeting with Dr Azhar Amin Nomani, a senior Alumni of AMU. He said they held discussion on the activities of Aligarhians rendering valuable services in various parts of the world and the need for forging greater coordination between them to further promote Aligarhians-related activities.

On arrival at the residence of Akbar Ali Khan, the visiting professor was warmly welcomed and present bouquet by Mr and  Mrs  Khan while Dr Jaffer Nazir Usmani presented the book "Rawayat-e-Aligarh" which was written by late Zakir Ali Khan during his life time. Another book on Zakir Ali Khan titled "Zakir-e-Sir Syed", which was written by noted scholar Dr Islahi from Aligarh, was also presented to visiting Professor.  Anwar Ali said  Dr Jaffer was over-whelmed by reading that book and remarked that he felt himself as he was in Aligarh.

In his speech on the occasion , Sqd. Ldr. Nafees Rabbani spoke about the history of AMUOBA and the establishment of Aligarh Institute of Technology, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology and multi-storeyed Sir Syed Tower under its banner in Karachi and said its credit goes to legendries like Late Zakir Ali Khan and  Z.A. Nizami.

The dinner was largely attended by prominent members of Aligarh fraternity, their wards, Alumni of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, a number of members of AMUOBA's Executive Committee besides nominated members of ZAK Panel.

Prominent among the guests on the occasion included Tariq Sabzwari and Engr Anwar Ali, Vice-President Engr Wasif Nazar, Joint Secretary and Engr Mohsin Khan, Treasurer AMUOBA.

Probe into AMUOBA affairs begins

The Sindh Department of Industries and Commerce, has started an enquiry into the affairs of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), acting upon the complaints registered by some of the Aligarhians. 

In the wake of this enquiry, the results of the AMUOBA Elections 2018, which were held on December 29, were also withheld and will be announced only after the enquiry is completed.

According to the complainants, in view of serious violations of association bylaws, irregularities and corruption in association affairs, the High Court of Sindh and the Secretary of Ministry of Industries and Commerce had ordered to conduct inquiry due to which the Association’s election result has already been withheld and sealed.

Meanwhile in compliance of court order, the Inquiry Officer has taken the charge of AMUOBA Head Office at M R Kiyani Road, Karachi, since January 2 in order to conduct immediate inquiry, notice of which had already been displayed at the Association’s office. 

All Associate/Life/Ordinary members of AMUOBA have been advised to submit their complaint/observation or any grievance with regard to the Association's day to day affairs, matters, staff and office bearers in person or in writing to the Inquiry Officer during the office timings of 9 am to 5 pm on working days.

AMOUBA elections suspended, enquiry ordered

The elections of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), due to be held on December 29, have been suspended by the Government of Sindh.

“All the activities connected to forthcoming elections of Executive Committee of the association scheduled to be held on December 29, 2018, are hereby kept in abeyance till submission of the report by the enquiry officer,” Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Secretary to Government of Sindh, notified on December 24. 

“With the approval of the competent authority, Muhammad Ali Soomro, Deputy Director (Development Wing), Director of Industries, Government of Sindh, is hereby appointed as Enquiry Officer under Section 16-A of Societies Registration Act 1816 to conduct enquiry into the affairs of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association,” the notification said. 

The term of reference of the enquiry includes the determination whether the governing body of the AMUOBA is unable to discharge or persistently discharge its duties or whether the management committee of the Association is acting in a manner contrary to the public interest of its members. 

Meanwhile Akbar Ali Khan, the founder and chairman of the Zakir Ali Khan Panel of AMUOBA, has congratulated the members at the action of the provincial government 

“Following to the efforts put by Zakir Ali Khan Panel to regain the rights of vote for AMUOBA’s members in the upcoming elections, it is hereby informed that we have successfully managed to draw attention of the of the Industries and Commerce Department, Government of Sindh,” he stated in his message to the members. 

“I would like to congratulate you all on raising your voices against the wrongdoing of the existing management and stood beside us in this movement of truth and together we will regain the pride of Aligarians and AMUOBA,” he added.

Hectic campaigning underway for AMOUBA elections

Hectic campaigning is going on in connection with the election-2018 of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) due to be held on December 29.

At present the AMUOBA is running the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and its affiliate Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT).  

Presently the two institutions are being run by AMUOBA's President and Chancellor Jawaid Anwar who had emerged victorious in the last elections as a candidate of the Zakir Ali Khan Panel. 

However, this time during the upcoming Elections 2018, he has joined hands with the Nizami Group. 

The Zakir Ali Khan group is being headed by its founder and chairman, Akbar Ali Khan, who has formed a panel and is likely to give tough time to their opponents.

The Zakir Ali Khan group's supporters held a meeting at which Akbar Ali Khan announced his group's manifesto committing a better future for the university through far reaching reforms. 

On the occasion the names of the panel candidates for Election-2018 were also announced. 

Dr Jafar Usmani will be the Presidential Candidate while Iqbal Siddiqui, Asif Siddiqui and Tariq Sabzwari have been nominated for the slots of Vice President.

Mohsin Khan (General Secretary), Wasif Nazar (Honorary Joint Secretary), Adil Masood (Honorary Joint Secretary Sports), Hamil Jalil Zuberi (Honorary Joint Secretary Publicity), Masood Alam (Hononrary Joint Secretary Academic) and Ahsan Ghazi (Honorary Treasurer) are the other nominees of the panel. 

The manifesto of the Zakir Ali Khan group for Elections-2018, unveiled on the occasion, contained its policies for recognition plans for Aligarians and AMUOBA members, Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association Cooperative Housing Society (AMUOBACHS), 200-acre Education City having campuses of SSUET and AIT, and new projects.

Veteran Aligarhian passes away

Muneer Muhammad Khan, Member, Executive Committee, Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) who passed away on January 13 was laid to rest at the DHA Graveyard in Karachi the following day. 

His Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at Mubarak Masjid in DHA Phase V Extension after Asr prayers which was attended by a large number of fellow Aligarhians, friends and relatives. 

Meanwhile in a condolence message, Engr Anwar Ali, Vice President, AMUOBA, has expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the death of Muneer Mohammed Khan and prayed that may Allah SWT rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant fortitude to bereaved family to bear this loss.

Engr Anwer Ali driving AIT to top of the tree

The Convener of the Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT), Engr Syed Anwer Ali, who is also the Vice President of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), desires to inculcate the famous Aligarhian sporting spirit among the youth of the country to let them excel in sports and education. 

Himself a former first-class cricketer, who was a rare all-round talent being a high quality fast bowler as well as a top order batsman, Engr Anwer Ali remains committed to facilitate the AIT students in their quest for knowledge and sports excellence. 

“Sports used to be one of the strengths of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), established by the great Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, originally as the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. We are endeavoring to revive the same sports culture at our institutions here having been founded by AMUOBA to furthering the cause,” he remarked in a recent interview. 

It may recalled that the AIT, housed in Block 5 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, was founded by the AMUOBA in 1989 and five years later they established the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) in the same arena. 

“During my tenure as Secretary Sports (2007-2011) I had turned it around at the SSUET which became proactive in sports and its students started winning laurels at all levels. Now having taken over as the Convener of the AIT in November 2015, I have been making efforts to lay a strong platform for sports studies in order to facilitate our students,” Engr Anwer Ali stated. 

“The majority of the students enrolled at the AIT are in the age group of 18 to 22 years and we are working accordingly to take care of their sports needs besides providing them the best possible facilities for studies. We are among the top educational institutions of the city and we are eager to expand our sports department,” he revealed. 

“We are planning to organize two different sports competitions at the All Karachi level during the current academic year. In the first festival there will be tournaments of cricket, hockey, football and basketball while the other festival will comprise of competitions in indoor games,” Engr Anwer Ali disclosed. 

“Our objective is to take the AIT to top of the tree in the field of sports too among the institutes affiliated to the Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE),” he declared. 

Engr Syed Anwer Ali heads the AIT Managing Committee being its Convener while the other members of the committee are Mohammad Arshad Khan, Mohammad Tariq Sabzwari, Mohammad Aijaz-ul-Yaqin, Syed Nasir Hussain, Iqbal Ahmed Siddiqui, Dr.Saleemuddin Chishti, Aslam Shah Khan and Syed Mohammad Munif.

SSUET edges out Virtual University in Independence Day Table Tennis series

The Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) edged out the Virtual University by two matches to one in the Independence Day Table Tennis series staged at the SSUET Gymnasium Hall. 

The Convener of the Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT), Engr Syed Anwer Ali, also the Vice President of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), was the chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony. 

In his brief address on the occasion, Engr Anwer Ali, hailed as one of the pillars of the AMUOBA, recalled the sacrifices of the millions of Muslims of South Asia in the creation of Pakistan.

“The Independence Day reminds us of the great sacrifices of our ancestors who had made the creation of Pakistan possible. We salute them for having braved the toughest of circumstances and endured pains of all kinds for the sake of the newly founded country. We have derived inspiration from their selfless acts and I hope that our future generations will continue to be inspired by their services,” Engr Anwar Ali remarked. 

Himself a former first-class cricketer of high pedigree, he touched about the need to inculcate the famous Aligarhian sporting spirit among the youth of the country for letting them excel in sports as well as academics. The three-match table tennis series turned out be an absorbing one. 

The SSUET drew the first blood by winning the first match in straight sets but the Virtual University bounced back in the next match to set up an interesting decider. The third and final match was clinched by the hosts who also pocketed the series.

Sir Syed’s bicentennial birth anniversary celebrations underway

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), in collaboration with Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) plans to hold numerous programmes during the current year to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of the legendary reformer and educationist, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan befittingly.

This was stated by AMUOBA President, Jawaid Anwar, who is also the Chancellor of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), in his latest interview. 

 Preparations were in full swing and the events would include a conference and a seminar, besides the celebration of the Sir Syed Day in a grand style this year. 

Sir Syed Day is celebrated every year on October 17 but this year will mark the 200th birth anniversary of the great reformer and educationist. 

Jawaid Anwar informed that the celebration activities had already started and in that regard two lectures on the life, achievements, mission and philosophy of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan had been held. The lectures were delivered by Prof. Islahi who specially came from Aligarh for the purpose. 

“We plan to hold a Bio-medical conference dedicated to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan later this year. We will also organize a quiz competition on Sir Syed while the Sir Syed Memorial Lecture is also included in our plans", 

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar informed adding that as many as three books on Sir Syed will be published and launched to highlight his monumental contribution. 

The AMUOBA President said that the concept of social reforms of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was based upon acquisition of modern scientific education. 

The key ingredients of his concept are proper upbringing, character building and tolerance and the Aligarh Muslim University proved to be the laboratory where these concepts were experimented, which produced students who possessed the above traits. The positive result of this experiment was the establishment of Pakistan, Jawaid Anwar stated.

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) in collaboration with Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has chalked out numerous programs during the current year to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of the legendary reformer and educationist, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, in a most befitting manner.

Zakir Ali Khan remembered

Glowing tributes were paid to Engr Mohammed Zakir Ali Khan, the late Vice-Chancellor of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) and the Secretary General of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) on the occasion of his fifth death anniversary held at the Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT).

The anniversary was observed in a programme whose arrangements were made by Anwar Ali, Vice-President, AMUOBA, and Convener, AIT. 

On the occasion the services of late Zakir Ali Khan were recalled, particularly for the cause of education which led to the establishment of the iconic institutions like the AIT and the SSUET as well as for the promotion of activities of AMUOBA. 

A large number of students of the AIT, besides its Principal and academic staff and some Aligarhians including the General Secretary of the AMUOBA, Arshad Khan, attended the gathering and participated in Dua-e-Maghfirat for the departed soul of late Engr Zakir Ali Khan as well as for late Engr Z A Nizami, the founding Chancellor of the SSUET and late Brig (Rtd) Qamarussalam. 

Later the AIT Convener, Anwar Ali, chaired a meeting and said that observance of anniversaries of great reformer and educationist Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Engr Zakir Ali Khan and Engr Z A Nizami was meant to acknowledge the legendary personalities and derive inspiration from their accomplishments.

US-based scientist honoured at SSUET

Shaheer Khan, the US-based Muslim scientist and a senior Aligarhian, currently on a short visit to Pakistan, was the chief guest at a luncheon hosted by Prof Dr Jawaid H Rizvi, Vice-Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET).

A senior staff scientist at Applied Biosystems (Thermo Fisher Scientific), San Francisco Bay Area Biotechnology, Shaheer Khan is an accomplished multidisciplinary scientist with 20 plus years of research and product development experience in Biotech Company. 

He has demonstrated strong synthetic and analytical chemistry background for discovery and development of new products in a multidisciplinary team environment and has an extensive background in organic chemistry with an emphasis on nucleosides/nucleotides and oligonucleotide. 

During an interaction with the luncheon participants Shaheer Khan praised the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) for its efforts for the establishment of an engineering university after the name of great reformer and educationist Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. 

He praised the SSUET founders late Zakir Ali Khan and Z A Nizami who, he observed, steered the AMUOBA towards achievements of cherished objectives in the field of education, particularly engineering. 

Shaheer Khan spoke about the AMUOBA like associations elsewhere in the world and expressing his desire to establish associations on the pattern of the Association at Aligarh University and called upon the SSUET's passed out graduates and now living abroad to contact him for the very purpose. 

He informed that the preparations have started to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan on October 17, 2017. 

As regards his association in US, he said that its functions are attended by people belonging to all religion as they don't allow any political and religious discussions from its forum. 

In his remarks on the occasion the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Jawaid H. Rizvi welcomed Shaheer Khan to the SSUET describing him as a proud Aligarhian rendering most important services in the field of science and technology in the US.

He disclosed that during his meeting with him he discussed with him important matter like visiting fellowship, research collaboration, student guidance, post-graduation programme with faculty. 

The luncheon was attended, among others, by senior Aligarhians, Vice-President AMUOBA, Anwar Ali, General Secretary Arshad Khan, Dean, Associate Dean, Chairpersons of various departments and senior faculty members besides Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali. 

Later the visiting scientist, accompanied by Anwar Ali and Arshad Khan visited the under-construction Sir Syed Tower at M.R. Kiyani Road opposite Arts Council of Pakistan. He praised the AMUOBA for its outstanding projects and said these projects would contribute greatly towards national development as a follow up of the mission of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

SSUET management meeting the challenge

Ever since the present management led by Chancellor Jawaid Anwar, who is also the President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) has taken over its leadership, the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has taken, on a positive note, many issues as a challenge. 

To begin with, according to the progress report 2016-17, issued by AMUOBA, a strategic plan with corrective measures to address the challenges was delivered on stringent timelines. The salient features of the plan included the establishment of Quality Enhancement Cell, establishment of the office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) with a monetary grant from the European Union, revamping of Center of Guidance Counseling and Career Planning/Placement (CGCCPP), establishment of postgraduate studies Directorate, signing of MoUs at national and international levels, HEC and Foreign Funded projects. 

The most important challenge was to ensure a transparent admission policy with transparent admission tests and timely results. 

Keeping in view the last year's experience, where the issuance of merit list was delayed for two months as the admission test date was September 20, 2015 while the result date was November 20, 2015. 

"We have tried our level best to overcome this issue and hence the result of aptitude test was declared on time", the report said. 

Determined efforts have been made to ensure transparency at all levels, says Chancellor Jawaid Anwar as per progress report. 

According to him, over the past year, since he took over, the mentioned efforts have already reflected on different forums as the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee (CIEC), Government of Sindh, Steering Committee raising the university's rank to Number One Private Engineering University of Sindh. 

Another feat achieved was bringing the Campus on Cloud envisaging a campus management with system rich functionality in a highly secure solution with a stunning user interface, covering the complete student lifecycle, CoC automates the admissions, Academics and Finance operations across the campus, departments and Programs of the Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT) was being deployed at the university.

AMUOBA remembers Dr A T Khan

Rich tributes were paid to the late Dr A T Khan, the first Vice-Chancellor of the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Karachi, at a memorial meeting organized by the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), at the SSUET campus. 

He was particularly remembered for his contribution in the preparation of draft of Charter for the establishment of the SSUET and his role towards promotion of engineering education. 

The speakers on the occasion talked with awe about the educational acumen of late A T Khan who dedicated 39 years of career in promoting the cause of education and recalled his services for SSUET as its first Vice-Chancellor following his retirement from the NED University of Engineering and Technology, at the same position. 

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, a renowned educationist and scholar, was the chief guest in the ceremony which was presided over by the SSUET Chancellor, Jawaid Anwar. 

The speakers included the SSUET Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Jawed H. Rizvi, Brig Dr Nasim A. Khan, Dr Prof Abdul Samad Khan, Engr Najib Haroon, Engr Asif Qasim Maisoorwala besides Mohammed Mohsin Khan, son of late A T Khan and Treasurer AMUOBA. The family members of late A T Khan were also present on the occasion. 

In his presidential address, the SSUET Chancellor Jawaid Anwar paid glowing tributes to late A T Khan and said that he was a true educationist who understood the importance of knowledge. 

He said that it’s for the first time that this function in memory of late Dr A T Khan has been organized because he’s fully convinced that only those nations progress which remember their legends and Dr A.T. Khan was also a legendary figure. 

He recalled that it was with this vision that AMUOBA organized a similar memorial meeting earlier for the late Engr Z A Nizami, the first Chancellor of SSUE, and named one recently constructed new academic block after his name. 

Similalry, the AMUOBA organized had memorial meeting for another legendary personality Zakir Ali Khan whose association with AMUOBA spanned over 50 years besides organizing a seminar on Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan, adding that one building will also be named after Shaheed-e-Millat. 

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar while highlighting the importance of knowledge quoted a Quranic Verse which first word is ‘Iqra’ and said this gives a reflection of the importance Islam gives to acquisition of knowledge. 

He underlined the importance of teachers, stating that teaching is one such major responsibility which contributes to the building of nations and Dr A T Khan was one of those teachers who immensely contributed towards this cause. 

Describing him as the most impressive personality for his students, he disclosed that the SSUET planned to establish a soil testing laboratory to be named after Dr A T Khan 

Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Riza Siddiqui, also paid tributes to late Dr AT Khan and regarded him a role a great model for teachers and students. 

He said to be feeling honored having had very close relations with late Dr A T Khan and advised the students to follow his footsteps for the achievement of their career objective. 

Dr Pirzada advised the professionals to join teaching by choice and not by chance for its being a noble profession. Dr A T Khan had a quality that with the minimum resources he made great result out of it, he added. 

In his speech the SSUET Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Jawed H Rizvi, said that from now on Dr A T Khan will be remembered on regular basis for his contribution in teaching and in civil engineering in particular. 

Engr Mohammad Mohsin Khan, son of late Dr A T Khan thanked the SSUET Chancellor and the AMUOBA President, Jawaid Anwar, the SSUET Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Jawed H Rizvi , and the AMUOBA for organizing the purposeful memorial meeting to pay homage and recall the immense educational contribution of his illustrious father.

He observed that it was for the first time in 20 years when Dr A T Khan is being paid tributes in such a befitting manner after having served for 39 years at the NED University, rising from Lecturer to Vice Chancellor. 

He said it’s a source of great inspiration that as many as members of Dr A T Khan's family were civil engineers. 

Engr Najeeb Haroon rated Dr A T Khan a great teacher and recalled his important role in civil engineering in Pakistan. 

Engr Asif Qasim Maisoorwala recalled that Dr A T Khan also taught ethics and how education led us to spend life. 

Prof Dr Abdul Samad reckoned that Dr A T Khan was the pioneer of soil mechanics in Pakistan, having introduced it in 1960s. 

Brig Dr Naseem A. Khan, representing Usmani Associates suggested that such events should be held on regular basis for our past and present legends. 

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the AMUOBA General Secretary, Mohammed Arshad Khan, and the presentation of souvenirs to Pirzada Qasim and other dignitaries.

AMUOBA to observe Yaum-e-Nizami

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) has chalked out an elaborate programme to observe Yaum-e-Nizami in a befitting manner on April 9. 

The programme will be held at the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Karachi, in memory of Engr Z A Nizami, a former President of the AMUOBA and the founder Chancellor of the SSUET. 

Besides the SSUET Chancellor, Jawaid Anwar, who will be presiding over, the ceremony will be addressed by Prof Dr Waqar Ahmed, Farrukh Nizami, Dost Mohammed Faizi and Rizwan Siddiqi. 

The university’s newly constructed Academic Block "E", named after Engr Z.A. Nizami, who passed away three years ago, will also be inaugurated on the occasion.

Aligarhian Zakir Ali Khan remembered

Rich tributes were paid to the late General Secretary of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), Engr Mohammad Zakir Ali Khan, on the occasion of his fourth death anniversary observed by the Association at the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology SSUET), Karachi.

Eminent speakers, on the occasion, highlighted the educational and literary services of Zakir Ali Khan, particularly his contribution towards the advancement of Sir Syed’s Mission. 

In his thought-provoking discourse, the SSUET Chancellor and the AMUOBA President, Jawaid Anwar, while recalling the services of Zakir Ali Khan, said that in any society the freedom of expression plays a positive role towards promotion of healthy trends. 

“The true opinion-making among the human beings is very much connected to their independent thinking,” he stated. 

“We at AMUOBA desire to write down a new chapter at Sir Syed University through educational advancement to be achieved through developmental activities.” 

He described Zakir Aki Khan as a multi-faceted person, particularly in the field of Urdu literature in recognition of which he was awarded ‘International Award for Literature’ by the Aligarh Muslim University. 

He particularly referred to Zakir’s most famous book ‘Riwayat-e-Aligarh’ and said it is a valuable gift for Aligarhians and students as well as a reflection of his character and personality. 

“It is a very informative truly reflecting the traditions of Aligarh culture and an important source for character building of students.” 

The Chancellor told the gathering that the University’s present setup is all out for the welfare of its employees and announced that they soon will be given benefits including medical insurance and revised pay scales. 

Pointing out that a number of welfare measures have been taken in a short span of four months, the services of around 150 adhoc employees were regularized and due promotions given to deserving employees besides completing the new E Block named after the Late Z A Nizami while it has been proposed to name Block F after Zakir Ali Khan. 

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said that admission process has been completed smoothly and new and old entrants were pursuing university’s discipline. 

According to him the gap between two important sections of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and Faculty is being bridged through reorganization measures. 

Earlier in his speech the AMUOBA’s General Secretary Mohammed Arshad Khan said that a sad phase of our society was that due recognition is not given to personalities in their lifetime. 

He stated that Zakir Ali Khan was the true benefactor of the Association and his services for AMUOBA and SSUET will go down in its history with golden letters. 

In his speech the Vice-Chancellor Hamdard University Prof Dr Abdul Mannan remarked that Zakir Ali Khan was binding force for the entire Aligarhin community and kept them jointed through his unmatched behavior and literary works. 

Noted journalist and writer Mahmood Shaam that every soul departing from us takes away his bright phase. Previously it was an era of independence but now the mass of slaves was on the rise. 

He said that Pakistan would not have come into being if there would not have been Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and it was unfortunate that we failed to maintain traditions and their continuation, adding that Zakir Ali Khan was the one who had command over urdu and presented the conditions around in a fascinating manner. 

Noted writer and researcher Khawaja Razi Hyder described Zakir Ali Khan a best writer of his era who had the ability to make people realize what used to be just information and his writings had a deep rooted appeal for the new generation in relation to their character building and wanted to see a bright future for them. 

Renowned poet Jazib Qureshi paid poetic tribute to Zakir Ali Khan and said he never allowed love, affection and memories to disappear. 

The daughter-in-law of Late Zakir Ali Khan said that he was a most affectionate person and from day one he never allowed her to feel that she came to in-laws after leaving her home.
