KARACHI: Habib University hosted its 10th Yohsin Lecture, featuring renowned Pakistani-American astrophysicist Dr Nergis Mavalvala as the keynote speaker, who highlighted the importance of curiosity, scientific research and universities in advancing human knowledge.
Speaking on the theme “The Joy of Discovery: Curiosity, Science, and the Pivotal Role of Universities,” Dr Mavalvala shared her insights into the role of scientific inquiry in expanding the frontiers of knowledge and inspiring new discoveries.
During the lecture, she discussed the importance of curiosity as a driving force behind scientific progress, emphasizing the role of universities in fostering an environment that encourages exploration, critical thinking and innovation.
Dr Mavalvala also reflected on her groundbreaking scientific work related to the first direct detection of gravitational waves, a landmark achievement that opened new avenues for understanding the universe.
