First phase of SSUET Admission process completed

The first phase of ongoing 2014 admission process at the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Karachi, has been completed with the expiry of the deadline for the last date for submission of admission forms for various engineering disciplines.

The second phase will envisage holding of written test on November 24 to be held at Expo Center and display of lists of successful admission seekers thereafter. Over 5000 will be appearing in the test.

The university is offering admissions to Computer, Electronics, Civil, Telecommunication and Bio-Medical Engineering besides Computer Science. This year around 25-30 percent more admission forms have been submitted as compared to last year.

During academic session 2014, the SSUET is introducing three new programs of Architecture, Bio-Informatics and Software engineering. This would bring the total number of faculties at SSUET to nine.

The ongoing admission process was reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chancellor SSUET Engr Mohammed Adil Usman and attended, among others, by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jawaid Hasan Rizvi and Registrar Syed Abrar Ali.

He directed that while granting admissions, high priority should be given to merit and transparency. He reiterated that holding of entry test on November 24 should be ensured in a peaceful environment.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jawaid Hassan Rizvi is personally monitoring the entire admission process to ensure merit.

Sindh Government’s Youth Affairs Department recognizes significance of media

The Youth Affairs Department of the Government of Sindh recognized the significance of media by joining hands with the Institute of Journalism, in holding a discussion on Media Patronage for Youth Development’ at the Arts Council of Pakistan on October 13.

Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, Sindh Minister for Youth Affairs, was the chief guest in the forum which was presided over by Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Secretary Youth Affairs to the Government of Sindh.

The Sindh Youth Minister candidly expressed his views about the current media practices and concluded that the youth development issues needs to be highlighted and should be patronized by media.

“Media being the fourth pillar of Pakistan must patronize youth development issues and should raise the voice of youth. The young journalists should be trained in a way that they can easily become the voice of youth and play their role effectively,” he stated.

Shoaib Siddiqui reckoned that the youth of the country was capable enough to make its presence felt in the field of media.

“Our youngsters do have the capacity to meet the challenge. Many of them have become successful media professionals. They have the talents to do the job. They, however, could fine tune their skills after completing their education,” he advised.

“Besides the young professionals the media in general should take the responsibility of playing its due role in patronizing the youth development,” Shoaib Siddiqui added.

Amin Yousuf, Secretary, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ), and Ahmed Shah President, Arts Council of Pakistan, also shared their views and experiences on the occasion.

The event, attended by a large number of media professionals and aspiring young journalists, concluded with vote of thanks presented by Nauman Adil, Executive Director, Institute of Journalism.

Make Noise

“Make noise” is an event organized by AWAZ CDS (GCAP PAKISTAN NATIONAL SECRETARIAT) all around the country from 17-19th September. The call for action against poverty should be given in these events. In Karachi, the event has been organized by Nauman Adil, member GCAP PAKISTAN,at Karachi press club and Karachi college(the camp of idp’s from Sindh) .The protest has been launched with different slogans in which they ask the government to eliminate poverty by 2015 as stated by the United Nation millennium development goals. Many people from different walk of lives attended the event.The protest should be launched with noise from different musical instruments but due to 10 days mourn announced by the local political party because of the murder of their leader , the protest has only been launched with slogans.
